How To Choose A Perfect Dressing Table

Brief History of Dressing Tables

Dressing tables used to have some aristocracy attached to them. They are also known as vanity tables for the same reason. In the old days, royal women were fond of spending considerable time near a dressing table. Gradually, the dressing tables found their place in every household. Now, it's an essential furniture for every household. This piece of furniture is a nice way to add some glamour into an otherwise dull bedroom. It's like your close companion with whom you spend some time everyday. You need it to fix yourself early in the morning without much clutter or fuss.

If you are looking for great vanity tables, you should keep two things in mind - to suit your taste and meet all the functionality.

Choosing a Perfect Piece

Three things that come first while choosing such a table are: condition of your bedroom, your choice of design, and of course, your budget.

The Space

A dressing table generally finds its place in the bedroom of any general household, but some are installed in a separate dressing room. And the equation changes there; the type of furniture for an exclusive dressing room and a bedroom are somewhat different. Next comes space. Queen Victoria's dressing table, though very elegant, you can't place it to fit in a small space such as a modern apartment. Availability of space and the location is very important for choosing a dressing table. You have to look for the ones that are not very large in size or very elaborate, yet have good finish and functions.

The Condition

If you are going for a luxurious (and expensive) one, you should expect durability of the same. So, the choice of material is very important as the heating and moisture of the bedroom affect the durability of any furniture. Room climate does affect the color, finish and strength of the furniture in the long run. In addition to that, the existing decor of the bedroom plays a role in choosing one type of table over the other. The background and color of your bedroom must match with that of the furniture. Because it's not wise to buy a dressing table first, and then change the home around it. Changing the home is definitely more expensive than changing a piece of furniture.

The Design

By design, here, we'll consider the style, shape, size, color and finish, though design as such doesn't fit to any solid definition. It's as much liquid as the ever-changing trends in fashion. Every design cannot match your requirements. The console, the mirror, the drawers, the lift-up lids, the pedestal and other accessories, all have something special about them - in terms of design. You have to pick one from multitude available types. The material and finish are the final considerations.

Leather And Microfiber Sofas - Which Is Better?

If you are in the market for a sofa, the choices are limitless. Designs have come a long way-and so are the materials they are made of.

Two of today's top choices for sofa fabric are leather and microfiber. While choosing one over the other remains a personal decision, the reasons you will base them from will depend on the type of usage you have planned for the couch.

If you want a sofa that you will love to use everyday, microfiber might be the top choice. Microfiber is basically polyester made from very thin strands. The strands combine to form a suede-like fabric that is very smooth and soft to the touch, not to mention stays relatively cool to the skin even in hot weather. Microfiber also has a good natural ability to repel liquids so maintaining one is not that big of a drawback. However, being porous and absorbent, microfiber needs constant cleaning because it attracts dirt and debris-the same reason it is popular as a cleaner.

On the other hand, leather has been around for ages and has always been associated with luxury. A leather-covered sofa will with no doubt look beautiful with whatever interior theme your house may have. Leather is also very comfortable, but there seems to be a short objective debate on this one. Leather is especially comfortable on cool-weathered places as it takes on the temperature of the atmosphere. For tropical climates, leather can be very hot and make you sweat more-it is non porous and gets sticky in hot climates. As for maintenance issues, with normal use, maintaining leather is as simple as wiping it and using an occasional leather conditioner.

To make decisions easier, microfiber leads the comfort race and leather leads the looks and low-maintenance race. Of course, this is not absolute because both also score some points in the other's strengths. But, the above advantages and disadvantages should easily guide you into ultimately deciding what's right for your home.
